Pennies for Patients

Do you have any lose change and are wondering what you can do with it? Why not donate it to a good cause? Starting Monday, Feb. 5, the students and staff of Charlevoix Middle School participated in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Pennies for Patients.

Pennies for Patients raises money to help find a cure for blood cancer and to improve the quality of life of blood cancer patients and their families. Over 75 percents of the funds raised go directly toward patient services and research.

The need for research and patient services is critical. Currently, 785,829 Americans and 27,363 Michigan residents suffer from blood cancer. Every 10 minutes someone with blood cancer will die.

We need your help! The last time CMS participated in Pennies for Patients, students raised $1,600. This year, the seminar class that raises the most money will earn a pizza party. If the school raises more than $500, the top two seminar classes will receive pizza parties.

• A gift of $500 will allow the Society to reimburse one patient and/or family for part of their medical expanses for one year.
• A gift of $805 will allow 10 people to be tested as potential bone marrow donors.
• A gift of $1,000 (the average amount of donations raised by each participating school) will fund one week of research.
