Dear Rayder Families and Friends,

Charlevoix Public Schools is seeking input from our parents and community to help our Board of Education make important decisions for the future.  I wanted to take a moment to share with you the steps we have taken up to this point.

Step 1 - Our board of education requested research on our current facilities and engineering studies to determine the needs and viability for the future.

Step 2 - We developed a committee in February 2016 to look at the information we had collected and to help drive the initial conversation regarding our current and future facility needs in our district.

Step 3 - The committee developed four options they felt were viable for the current and future students at CPS.

Step 4 - We organized and promoted two forums for our community to attend.  The first one was held at Charlevoix Elementary School and the second at Round Lake Educational Center (Old Middle School).

Step 5 - We created an online survey for our community and staff in order to receive further input and direction.

Step 6 - Our committee will use what we have learned in the past year along with the information we obtain in the surveys to make a decision on what plan or plans to present to the board of education.

Step 7 - Present to the Board of Education.

Option 1:

Elementary School Remodel at Existing Location + New Gym Addition

Total Sq. Feet - 81,983  

Minor Remodel - 60,882 Sq. Ft.   Major Remodel - 6,678 Sq. Ft.      
New Construction - 14,423 Sq. Ft.

How we are addressing concerns:

–Addition of Gym to provide additional space

–ADA improvements to: bathrooms; door hardware

–Energy Improvements: Windows, doors, lighting and finishes.

–Roofing (100%)

–Replace AHU at Gym including ductwork Computer Lab and Media Center; A/C at entire building; Kitchen Ventilation System; Mechanical Controls; Lighting fixture replacement

Option 2:

Enhanced Remodel of Round Lake for Elementary School

Total Sq. Feet - 88,195

Minor Remodel - 40,051 Sq. Ft.   Major Remodel - 35,349 Sq. Ft.        
New Construction - 12,795Sq. Ft

Addressing concerns:

–Utilizes existing gym

–ADA improvements to: bathrooms; door hardware

–Energy Improvements: Windows, doors, lighting and finishes.

–Roofing

–Mechanical and Plumbing: A/C upgrades at Gym, Commons and Admin.; Classroom Unit Ventilator Replacement; Kitchen Ventilation System; HVAC controls; replace plumbing fixtures; replace galvanized piping

–Project can be completed while existing elementary remains operational

–Plumbing modifications/new to support elementary operation(ie: baths at classrooms)

–Some aesthetic enhancements to existing exterior

Option 3:

New Elementary School at Round Lake Campus

Total Sq. Feet - 82,187

Minor Remodel - 12,627 Sq. Ft.    Major Remodel - 0 Sq. Ft.  
New Construction - 69,560 Sq. Ft.

Addressing concerns:

–Utilizes existing gym

–Primarily New facility

–High energy Efficiency

–Project can be completed while existing elementary remains operational

New Elementary School at High School Complex

All New Construction
