Making Birthdays Happy

First grade students, with the help of a Learn and Serve grant, collected materials to assemble "birthday bags" for the Food Pantry. Birthday bags contain all the trimmings for a family to put on a birthday party for a child. Some of the bags had special themes like Toy Story and others were more generic. Bags were assembled by students during class and then they made a trip to the Food Pantry to deliver the bags. Families that would normally visit the food pantry for necessities, can now pick a bag of birthday items so EVERY child can have a party! The first grade had a tour of the pantry and some expanation of why it was there and who it serviced. They received a nice thank you from the pantry for the donation!
