On the job training

If someone said “retractor” and “suction”, would you know what he or she was talking about? A surgical technologist would. These are frequent requests made by surgeons during operations. Converting a portion of a middle school science lab into a mock surgery setting, surgical techs Chris Good and Linda Ward explained their profession during Career Day. Students viewed an array of instruments and learned about surgical techniques and the training required for the job.

Thirty presenters dispersed throughout the middle school shared authentic stories and hands-on gear from their careers, including recommendations for classes and training. Students visited their top three interests. Thank you to all the presenters!
